The Netherlands, 10th May 2016 –– Exset, pioneers of TV ecosystems for enhanced digital TV services, has today announced that it has partnered with Rentak Setia Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia to drive deployment. The partnership is designed to push the rollout of Exset’s DMS value-add ecosystem to increase ARPU and overall penetration of digital services.
DMS is a unique business and technology model that allows operators to provide value-added services via broadcast networks in emerging markets or markets in transition, creating essential monetisation paths over and above subscriber fees. This in turn creates services that entice subscribers. Subscription rates and set-top box costs have to be kept to a minimum to drive penetration in these markets, but ARPU must also be driven upwards.
Rentak Setia Sdn. Bhd. is an IT solutions provider in the broadcast graphics automation, newsroom and broadcast automation, interactive television and software development fields. It is also a licensed government contractor, specialising in IT, broadcasting and communication and is a registered Application Services Provider with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
DMS powers a range of services on very low-cost STBs, including fully integrated EPG ad-insertion as well as “Blue Button” advertising. It supports push VoD, allowing operators to pre-load their most popular content to the viewer’s set-top box. USB-based PVR capabilities, meanwhile, -viewers can record content on a simple USB stick connected to the set-top. ‘Red Button’ interactivity provides additional magazine services (weather, news, and sports, for example) at the touch of a button on the remote, or open up additional video from a programme stream.
Paul Soosay, CEO with Rentak Setia, said, “Our skillsets and technologies are very well aligned with those of Exset. We see a real benefit for network operators and broadcasters with this value-add ecosystem, based on its DMS middleware, to drive up penetration and revenue while also increasing viewer value.”
DMS is already deployed by multiple operators across Asia, including CMG in Pakistan and One TV in Cambodia, as well as at Tricolor in Russia allowing them to offer value-added services to TV sets over and above video and audio.
Andrew Pons, Global Director of Sales and Marketing with Exset, said, “We are excited to be working with Rentak Setia. Our model is very much based on partnerships throughout the chain and bringing those together in a seamless whole for operators. We believe that this partnership will help to drive deployment across Malaysia.”
Exset is exhibiting on the Rentak Setia booth 4A1-03 at Broadcast Asia 2016.
